EVENTS & CHAMPIONSHIPS
The South Gippsland District Golf Association conducts 5 Annual Championship events. These Championships are conducted throughout the year at various times.
South Gippsland D.G.A. – Opening Day
Whilst this event is not regarded as a ‘Championship’ it is still regarded as an important event on our calendar as it gives a chance for members from all District clubs to get together and meet new friends and catch up with existing friends. The event is run as a ‘Mixed Canadian Foursomes ’ event over 18 holes, The 2011 Opening Day will be held at Welshpool Golf Club on Sunday 27th February.
South Gippsland D.G.A. – Foursomes Championship
The District Foursomes Championships is generally played in July each year. The event is played over 18 holes for the Tom Welsford Shield. Along with the District Foursomes Championship, there are scratch & handicap events for ‘A’ & ‘B’ grade. The 2010 event will be held at at venue and date to be decided
South Gippsland D.G.A. – Fourball Championship
The District Fourball Championships is generally played in September each year. The event is played over 18 holes for the K. MacDonald Shield. Along with the District Fourball Championship, there are scratch & handicap events for ‘A’ & ‘B’ grade. The 2010 event will be held at Meeniyan Golf Club on Sunday 12th September.
South Gippsland D.G.A. – Mixed Foursomes Championship
The District Mixed Foursomes Championship is generally played in October each year. The event is played over 18 holes for the Chas Hollins Memorial Shield. Along with the District Mixed Foursomes Championship, there are scratch & handicap events for ‘A’ & ‘B’ grade. The 2010 event will be held at Welshpool Golf Club on Sunday 10th October.
South Gippsland D.G.A. – Singles Championship
The District Singles Championships is generally played in November each year. The event is played over 36 holes for ‘A’ Grade (0 – 9) & 27 holes for ‘B’ grade (10 – 18) & ‘C’ Grade (19 – 27) if sufficient entries ar received. The championship carries events for several shields. The Singles Championship is played for the C. Evans Shield. The Junior Championship is played for the C. McLean Shield. The R. Carruthers Memorial Shield is played over 27 holes scratch for ‘B’ & ‘C’ Grades. The P.V. Goyne Shield is a Teams Event (4 players), where the best 3 of 4 scores are taken into account over 36 holes. The 2010 event will be held at Lang Lang Golf Club on Sunday 21st November.
